    Bern Pilates is a fully equipped STOTT PILATES Studio. We offer private, semi-private and group Pilates sessions. The studio features state of the art MERRITHEW equipment – reformers, cadillac, stability chairs and barrels – which allows our instructors to tailor a program that benefits individuals regardless of their activity level and fitness goals.

Meet the Instructors…

MAUREEN ROSE

Owner, STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor

Maureen began practicing Pilates after the birth of her children.  Her positive experience with her own Pilates training encouraged her to further her knowledge and become an instructor.  Maureen enjoys working with clients to help them achieve optimal stability and strength while encouraging a healthier lifestyle.  She is a fully Certified STOTT PILATES Instructor in Matwork, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrels; certified in Injury & Special Populations and Total Barre and teaches both private equipment and group classes.

Maureen is a New Bern native and holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Meredith College in Raleigh.

MICHAEL MOMAN

STOTT PILATES Trained Instructor

Mike began his mind-body fitness journey in his 30s when he started running and competing in triathlons and marathons. On this journey he experienced a defining moment when he dislocated his shoulder and broke his arm. During the rehab process, and as he prepared to retire from a long and successful career as Director of Human Resource with Weyerhaeuser Company, he discovered a second career opportunity in physical therapy. This new career resonated with his beliefs surrounding exercise and good health and with his desire to help others. His work in physical therapy in the local area led him to realize that he had neglected a crucial part of any exercise program – core strength and flexibility. Mike’s solution was STOTT PILATES. Mike says that “becoming a STOTT PILATES Trained Instructor aligns with my convictions around a well-balanced life, builds on my career in physical therapy and allows me another venue to reach out and help others achieve their goals.”

NANCY THURINGER

STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor

Nancy began practicing Pilates in 2008.  She found that her Pilates training increased her strength, flexibility and allowed her to recover more quickly from injuries. This encouraged her to further her knowledge and become an instructor.  Nancy enjoys working with clients to help them achieve a greater awareness of their bodies while encouraging a healthier lifestyle.  She is a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor in Matwork, Barrels, Cadillac Chair and Reformer, certified in Injuries & Special Populations, and a qualified instructor of Zen-Ga. She teaches both private clients and group classes.

Nancy is a native New Bernian and holds a B.S. degree in History and Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Masters in Library Science from ECU.

STEFANIE BAUMAN

Certified PILATES Instructor

Stefanie was born and raised in Germany and for the last 10 years has been living in San Diego, CA. She has always loved North Carolina and is excited to live in Beaufort. She has a B.A. in English and a Masters in Exercise Science. Pilates has been her passion since 2004, when she started taking mat classes. She was thrilled to see her low back pain diminish. In 2013, she decided to advance her Pilates practice by adding equipment classes and once again was pleased to experience an increase in strength and flexibility and improved posture. Stefanie was encouraged to take the step and become a certified Pilates Instructor through the teacher training program with Club Pilates. She loves teaching Pilates and helping clients achieve and advance their fitness goals and believes in her favorite quote by Joseph Pilates “If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old. If it is completely flexible at 60, you are young.” She enjoys seeing the benefits of Pilates help clients achieve a healthier life style, rehabilitate from injuries and have an overall strengthened and toned body at any age.

CAILIN WHITSETT

Sweat It Out Class Instructor

Cailin Whitsett attended Appalachian State University where she ran on the varsity cross country tea and earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion and Nutrition. She has always had a passion for health and fitness. After five years of being a stay at home mom, Cailin decided to pursue a career in personal training. She has a passion for helping others live fit and healthy lives.

Cailin has completed six marathons (2 Boston) and has been teaching fitness for over a year. She loves to run, spend time with friends and family and travel to the mountains of NC. She is excited about being part of the Bern Pilates team!

Monday 9:15 – Pilates MatWork Plus

An Essentials Level STOTT PILATES © mat class that incorporates small equipment, such as the fitness circle, hand weights, roller and barrels, to improve overall muscular strength and endurance, increase total body awareness, and develop stability, balance and flexibility.
NOTE: No class on 12/26!

Monday 10:15 – Equipment Level 1

Develop a defined, stronger, leaner body on one of the most popular pieced of Pilates equipment, the Reformer.  By incorporating the principals of Pilates along with the resistance of the reformer spings you will focus on core strength, agility, balance and flexibility while increasing your stamina and coordination.  Classes are sold in packages of 5 and 10.

Monday 5:00 – Men’s Matwork Level 1

This essential level class is a full-body workout for overall conditioning, cross-training and a strong, injury-resistant core. Great for both golf and tennis!  Class will utilize small props, including weights, fitness circle, stability ball and barrels.

Monday 6:15 – Athletic Conditioning Level 2 Co-Ed

This class uses dynamic movement sequences to develop strength and stability particularly through the core, hips and back. It features an intense abdominal series, sequences with rotation and mobilization as well as a section dedicated to front and side planks. This is a co-ed class.
NOTE: No class 12/26!

Tuesday 8:15 – Equipment Class Level 1

Develop a defined, stronger, leaner body on one of the most popular pieced of Pilates equipment, the Reformer.  By incorporating the principals of Pilates along with the resistance of the reformer spings you will focus on core strength, agility, balance and flexibility while increasing your stamina and coordination.  Classes are sold in packages of 5 and 10.

Tuesday 9:15 – Equipment Class Level 2

This group equipment class will take you to the next level in this core-challenging, faster-paced workout. Build on your strength and coordination while developing a stronger, toned, leaner, and flexible body. In this class you will challenge precision, explore range of movement, increase performance and boost stamina.  This is an intermediate class and prior pilates experience and instructor approval is required.  Be prepared to sweat, and feel relaxed, stretched, taller, and stronger afterwards.

Tuesday 10:15 – Back to Basic

If you are new to Pilates, or have been taking for years but love having a refresher course, this is the class for you! Your instructor will incorporate the principals of Pilates and along with the resistance of the reformer springs, you will focus on core strength, agility, balance, and flexibility all while increasing your stamina and coordination.

Tuesday 11:15 – Pilates Refined

Slower paced workout that is ideal if you are suffering from back pain, osteoporosis or arthritis or are rehabilitating an injury. This style of Pilates emphasizes body alignment, posture and breathing and connects movements with a calm, controlled flow. The moves focus on strengthening your core and improving general body mechanics, stability and mobility.

Wednesday 8:15 – Matwork Class "Sweat It Out"

Sweat it Out is a 45 minute high intensity interval training workout that is designed to promote fat-loss and improve your overall body conditioning.  The class will incorporate strength training, core and cardio exercises.  Be prepared to push yourself beyond your comfort zone!  (Yoga mat and dumbbell hand weights required.)

Wednesday 9:15 – Active Adult Equipment

Develop a defined, stronger, leaner body utilitzing the the popular reformer and chair.  By incorporating the principals of Pilates along with the resistance of the spings you will focus on core strength, agility, balance and flexibility while increasing your stamina and coordination.  Classes are sold in packages of 5 and 10.

Wednesday 10:15 – Equipment Class Level 1
